believe this is arson and are looking for anybody with any information. the parents of a young hayward girl who disappeared 24 years ago will have to wait weeks to find out if their daughter has finally been found. investigators say dna testing on a bone fragment pulled from a lindon well in february will take a while to complete. they're testing to see if it belonged to 9-year-old michaela garecht. they initially thought it belonged to 16-year-old joanne hobson, but scientists determined it belonged to a person younger than her daughter. the well in lindon was a dumping ground for the so-called speed freak killers. earlier this one he told them where to find the bodies. thieves accused of stealing a lamborghini and trying to kill a couple could be facing

charges. max wade is charged with attempted murder, vehicle theft and burglary. during a preliminary hearing this week prosecutors said he should also face charges for trying to pull a loaded gun on the officers who came to arrest him. wade stole a lamborghini belonging to guy fiari back in march. the next month he allegedly fired a handgun at a teenage couple inside of a pickup truck. wade's preliminary hearing continues today. moving on to decision 2012, after a presidential debate last week that many said lacked fire and energy, last night vice president joe biden and republican vp hopeful congressman paul ryan looked to change the tempo in their first and only debate and there were fireworks from the get-go. jay gray has the latest on the candidates' first and only face-off. >> reporter: like most heavyweight bouts, it started with a firm handshake and then a flurry. republican paul ryan taking the initial swing after the debate's

first question about the september attack in libya that killed four americans, including u.s. ambassador christopher stevens. >> what we are watching on our tv screens is the unraveling of the obama foreign policy which is making it more chaotic and us less safe. >> with all due respect, that's a bunch of mularkey. vice president joe biden accused the republican of politicizing the tragedy. biden was engaged, at times animated and always aggressive, referring more than once to a now infamous secretly recorded fund-raiser speech by mitt romney. >> there are 47% who are with him who believe that they are victims. >> i've had it up to here with this notion that 47% -- it's about time they take some responsibility here. >> the sparring continued for the full 90 minutes. >> we're heading in the wrong direction. >> each candidate throwing jabs. >> mr. vice president -- mr. vice president, i know you're under a lot of duress to make up

4:39 am
livermore. mike, showers on the radar means probably a slower than usual friday light commute, huh? >> yeah, we're going to watch for that. the golden gate bridge shows a little sheen on the roadway but not a big deal as far as the bottom of traffic. we're looking through san rafael and just south of sir francis drake, we do have your typical construction zone as well as road crews on that richmond/san rafael bridge. neither area showing any slowdown. thing flows here, 24 over toward the caldecott, construction crews clearing there as well as 880 downtown. mild slowing in the downtown direction. you lose a couple of lanes heading north of 23rd. show you the san mateo bridge, good crystal clear view here. roadways okay. looks like they're dry as well as in the south bay where 101 shows you a lot of headlights. oh, my goodness, it's a split screen of some cars and other

cars. we'll fix that and send it back to you guys. it is 4:40. it was not the ending the a's had hoped for. after battling back from a two-game deficit in the playoffs, oakland loses the series in a shutout to the detroit tigers. the a's fell 6-0 against justin verlander. oakland allowed four runs in the seventh and only managed four hits in the entire game. regardless, a's fans treated the team to a standing ovation. >> everybody hates that it has to end right now. i just want to thank all the fans. they did a fantastic job. >> they were behind us the whole time. you couldn't ask for any more from the crowd. all i can say now is i hope to see crowds like that at every game next year. >> no doubt about that. oakland fans were hoping to be celebrating as new a.l. division champs. they say they're still proud of their green and gold. >> we're disappointed, but we're so proud they came this far.
4:41 am
we're definitely proud they came this far. it's a disappointment, but it's okay, there's always next year. >> fans say they are sticking by their team. >> those guys should be very, very proud. meantime better news for the giants. they are staying in cincinnati. they wait to find out what will play in that nl championship series. in case you missed it, the giants were able to pull off that amazing coming in the nl division series after losing the first two games, the orange and black rally to win three in a row and this marks the very first time a team has won an nl division series after being down two games to none. >> we're a very grindy team, we skra scrapped it out. it shows in our play. man, man i'm proud of my team. >> give me that champagne. so here's how it breaks down. if the cardinals end up beating the nationals, the giants have home field advantage and would fly back home to san francisco.
4:42 am
